Coding Quests

Build Godot games you understand.

Follow interactive lessons where you write code, get feedback, and build a game step by step.

Learn the game design behind the code: why a jump feels responsive, a hit feels powerful, and an enemy feels fair. Then try your own ideas.

Tutorials are a loop. CodingQuests is a road.

Same hours. One path ends with a game you can play.

The CodingQuests path

A road that arrives somewhere

  1. Learn
  2. Build
  3. Combine
  4. Finish game

Lessons add up to a quest: one part of a game, like an inventory. Quests add up to a whole game.

You build each piece yourself and end with a game you can play, like this action roguelike.

Every quest comes with an unfinished place. You finish it.

Each lesson you finish makes one more piece of it work, with your own code. Finish the quest and the place stands in your Realm for good. That's the world you build up as you learn.

  1. Unfinished

  2. First piece

  3. Walls up

  4. Roof on

  5. Finished

One road. Every step laid out. A finished game at the end.

Follow the waypoints from your first line of code to shipping your game. No guessing what comes next. The 2D platformer below is a campaign: a set of quests, in order, that builds one whole game.

Tutorials show you the answer. Here you build it yourself.

Predict what the code does, test real behavior, then reuse the idea in a new spot. That is the difference between watching and building.

You follow along, then open a blank scene and freeze.

Coding Quests

You build it yourself, and Code Checks show what your code actually passed.

How each lesson makes the idea stick.

Predict before the reveal

Call what the code does before the explanation appears.

Test real behavior

Code Checks show the structure and behavior your solution passed.

Prove It, in a new spot

Prove It challenges ask you to reuse the idea in a nearby context we did not walk you through line by line.

Rewards for real effort

Resolve rewards clean solves, recovered mistakes, and transfer clears. Copying can still pass, but better clears earn better rewards.

So far these are strongest in the free beginner quests. We're adding them to every other quest.

You write it. Code Checks show what passed. Then you move on.

extends Node

Items are data, not scene objects. This should extend Resource.

Real Godot games, actually shipped

Released on Steam and itch.io by Omar, the creator of Coding Quests, and by devs who learned with him. Getting here is the whole point of a campaign.

Omar, the creator of Coding Quests

“I wasted years in tutorial hell, following along then freezing on a blank scene. So I built the guide I wish I'd had: write real GDScript, get it checked, and walk away with a whole game you actually understand.”
