Godot Sandbox

CQ

Starting the Godot editor...

The first visit downloads Godot, about 7 MB. After that it opens in a moment.

Godot Sandbox

Real Godot 4, running in your browser. Add nodes, paint tiles, write GDScript and press Play. Then publish a link or export it for itch.io.

Free, and nothing to install.

What you are using

The game view is the Godot engine itself. The Scene, Inspector, Node and TileMap panels are ours, and every button in them is a real engine call. Paint a tile and Godot's TileMapLayer places it. Draw with the terrain brush and Godot picks the edge tiles. Press Play and your scripts run in the engine.

  • Add any node Godot's web build has, in 2D or 3D. The Inspector shows that node's real properties.
  • Drag in your own images, sounds and 3D models. Drag nodes and files into scripts and the Inspector, as you would in Godot.
  • Give a TileSet a Physics Layer, mark tiles solid, and watch your player stop at them.
  • Write GDScript. Godot's own compiler marks the line with the mistake.
  • Connect signals and add groups in the Node dock, and set @export values in the Inspector.
  • Set up the Input Map and autoloads in Project Settings, the same as in Godot.
  • Download the project and open it in desktop Godot, export it for itch.io, or publish a link anyone can play.

Want to build a whole game?

The sandbox is for trying things. The quests walk you through building real games, one working piece at a time.

Questions

Is this the real Godot engine?
Yes. The game runs in Godot 4.7, compiled to WebAssembly. Every node you add is a real Godot node, the Inspector lists the engine's own properties, and Play runs your GDScript in the engine. The panels around it are ours, built to work on a phone.
Can I open my sandbox project in desktop Godot?
Yes. Press Download and you get a project folder with project.godot, your scene, your scripts and the art. Import it in Godot 4.7 or newer and press F5.
Which nodes work?
Anything in Godot's web build, which is most of the engine. That covers 2D and 3D physics bodies, TileMapLayer and GridMap, sprites and 3D models, cameras and lights, animation, particles, navigation and UI. Only the multiplayer nodes are left out of the browser build, to keep the download small.
Does it save my work?
Your projects save in this browser as you go, up to six of them. Sign in and they save to your account too, so they open on any device. Open, start or delete them from Project > Project Manager.
